“A cheerful heart is good medicine…”- Proverbs 17:22

Usually I want to write something that is helpful or thought-provoking- but sometimes we just need to laugh. Especially in light of all the stuff that’s going on these days.

So, without further ado, I give you “Things you think about at 2 AM when your child is wide awake”!

Disclaimer: These thoughts may or may not reflect the beliefs of LifeSpring Church, and no attempts to build a theological structure or argument should be made from the following material, considering it is written at 2 AM by a dad in delirium.

#1- (Upon sitting down with my son in the rocking chair and him being wide awake): How did I end up here?

#2- Come on, Dillon. You know the answer to that. You’ve preached about it. The Bible has a whole book dedicated to “how” it happens.

#3- Oh yeah. Obviously.

#4- As ridiculous as the “Floss” dance is, it’s incredible that no one has come up with a dance called “The poopy dance” or “The gassy baby”. Because my son DEFINITELY has a serious dance he does when he’s gotta get something out of his system.

#5- Speaking of which…I mean, Jesus was both fully God AND fully human…did he have a poopy dance when he had to go as a baby? My gosh- I don’t know. Is it irreverent to ask that question?

#6- (While changing the diaper when the poopy dance concludes): I wonder if Jesus ever had the following thought while being changed: “You know, earth-Dad (AKA Joseph) needs to grow in his patience- and I know just the way to help him. I’ll let him get the new diaper all the way on…and immediately go again. It’s not personal, earth-Dad. You have need of patience.” (And seriously- nothing tries your patience like THAT).

#7- At least (so far) Cayson hasn’t decided to go that route tonight. But the night is young. And he’s STILL awake (after an HOUR). Not fussy. Just awake.

#8- I wonder if Jesus, as a baby, ever had such spells- when he was just awake. Or I wonder if He was ever fussy. I mean, He was perfect…so I guess He may have been the perfect baby? Or, being fully human, would he have expressed the fully human side of baby-ness (just without sin)?

#9- Baby-ness is not a word.

#10- Who made you the grammar police? It’s my blog post. We’re going with it.

#11- The pacifier is starting to work! His eyes are getting heavy.

#12- Oh no- the pacifier fell out- his eyes are opening!

#13- I put the pacifier back in…sleep is on the way! Praise God for pacifiers!

#14- If (or when) Jesus expressed the fully human side of his baby-ness, did Joseph and Mary ever get frustrated? And if so, were they immediately convicted…with Jesus being God?

#15- Dang it. It fell out again. Maybe if I hold it in…and type with one hand…

#16- I think…yes, he’s asleep now…maybe I can get him to sleep without waking him…

#17- MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Good night!
