This Easter Sunday, Pastor Dillon starts off our new series called Unburdened talking about what happens when we try to be good enough for God!

Unburdened – Trying To Be Good Enough

Matthew 28:1-7 (NIV): After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.

There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men.

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples: ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.’ Now I have told you.”

“Keep the rules to keep God happy.”

We will never be good enough for God.

Isaiah 64:6 (NIV): “…all our righteous acts are like filthy rags”…

Trying to be good enough will exhaust you.

Matthew 11:28 (NIV): “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

The goal is not to be good enough. The goal is to find rest for our soul.

Rest isn’t found in doing my own thing

Matthew 11:29-30 (NIV): “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Rest is found in a relationship with Jesus.

I don’t have to be good enough for God because Jesus was perfect in my place

Psalm 23:1 (NIV): The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

We give our lives to Jesus and follow Him as Lord
